“Ah, Olinda’s countryman. I must admit to being glad to see you”, the Commandant puts an arm around Miro’s shoulder and leads him away from the main gathering of people, “Olinda has taken sick and has forbid my visiting. She did so enjoy conversing with you when you were last here. I would be much indebted if you would speak with her and convince her to let me visit. I am sure she will be agreeable to seeing you.”
“Olinda… ill? I will take her… err, talk yes? Have no fear, I will do my best to convince her to see you.", Miro replies with a quick bow before heading up the stairs in a series of quick bounds. He knocks on the door and sees a woman in servant’s attire open the door a crack.
“I see Lady Olinda, yes?”, Miro says with a smile.
“My pardons sir, she is not feeling well and is not accepting visitors.”, the woman starts to close the door but Miro passes an ornate dagger hilt first towards her.
“Please show her, then see me.”
The door shuts and reopens a few minutes later.
“Sir, she has agreed, you may come in but promise me you won’t stay long.”
Miro enters and sees Olinda propped up in bed with many large pillows.
“My dear Miro, come sit”, Olinda says tapping the bed besides her.
“I hear you have been sick.”
“I will be fine. You needn’t worry, Mara is taking good care of me. I do have a favor to ask of you. I need you to return to the old world and deliver this box for me to your mother.”
“Certainly, I will try but I’m not sure there will be a ship available in time for me to make it home before the winter comes. Unfortunately the Queen Mary has seen better days.”
“Send in the Commandant when you leave and I’ll make sure he gives you what you need to get the ship repaired.”
“Very well, I’ll let you rest now and I’ll come back to see you before I leave for the old world.”, Miro bends down to give Olinda a hug and kiss and he notices her wince in pain, “You must let me give you something for that. On our trip, we came across the seeds of a plant that aids in healing. I’ll get a small pouch from Francisco with some instructions on the proper dose. You may wish to start with a smaller dose and slowly increase it. Oh and take it before bed since it will put you to sleep.”
Miro heads back down the stairs and finds Francisco.
Francisco translates, “Commandant, my friend Miro here, says she has agreed to see you now but we must see now Captain Mason to check when the Queen Mary can be repaired and ready for a voyage.”
“My thanks young man. I will make sure you have what you need to make the repairs to your ship. My men should be able to have it ready by the end of the week.”

Miro looks down at the box. It has only a simple lock, one that I would have practiced on as a youth.
“Is there anything I should know about the contents?”, Miro asks looking at Olinda.
“Protect it with your life… well, perhaps with your friends’ lives first”, Olinda offers a small smile.
Miro stands, and starts to remove his shirt. Mara had been standing by a table preparing a tray with some light foods and trying to remain part of the background. She turns suddenly.
“Sir, you can’t! She is not well.”
Miro laughs, “Mara, do be a dear and keep calm…”
Olinda interrupts, “I will translate for you Miro, He says you can relax, he will not impose himself upon me but if he could coax you out of that plain uniform, I’m certain he’d find you stunning.”
Miro winks at Mara.
Olinda continues translating, “He was wanting to show me the scar that he has on his right shoulder, at the top of his arm. If not for this scar he might have died”, Olinda pauses and looks at Miro with concern, “When he was attacked at night by a saber-toothed cat.”,
Miro waits until Olinda finishes her translation, “I must admit I am a bit hesitant leaving you not knowing how much of your health troubles you are concealing from me.”
“You’re sweet. I didn’t mean to worry you.” She lifts the edge of her nightgown to reveal a shapely thigh and hip, along with a carefully stitched wound in her side. “Mara is working hard to ensure there’s no scar. I’ll be fine, especially if these seeds are as good as you believe.”
